Ben is also a musician and currently plays in two bands. He is a composer and song writer and plays several instruments. He also presents the Folk Programme on Hive Radio.
Diane and Ben met one another at Bede’s World Museum in Jarrow in 2014. Diane was the Manager of the community radio station based at the museum and Ben was the Volunteer Coordinator and also a volunteer for the radio. When Bede’s World closed Diane and Ben discussed the idea of keeping the radio station going. They ascertained that the new site managers were not interested in keeping the radio station so they set up Community Arts Project North East as a social enterprise and registered as a Community Interest Company. Initially they worked from home and more then moved into an office and radio studio in Bilton Hall Community Trust in Jarrow. They now work with a wide range of other community groups and enterprises, as well as charities, schools, colleges, local businesses and local authorities. Their shared interest in radio has meant that Hive Radio remains very much at the heart of everything they do.
