Community Arts Project North East were part of the Social Enterprise Festival at the Sage Gateshead on Saturday 29th October 2016. We broadcast live on the day and interviewed many of the social enterprises represented at the festival. We had a great day and met some amazing people with great ideas and businesses. We have just completed a new project with Clare Hunt, a music therapist from Sunderland. The project is called “Home Is Where The Heart Is” and involved Community Arts Project North East and Clare Hunt interviewing older people from Sunderland and South Tyneside. We eventually worked with 11 people who told us their life stories. We then worked with these people to write songs and music based upon the stories they told us. The project culminated in a live performance featuring 10 of the original group in front of a live audience at the Quaker Meeting House in Sunderland. The project has been so successful that we are looking for further funding to help us develop the idea into other groups in Sunderland and South Tyneside. All of the participants have told us how much they enjoyed being part of the project and how much they would like to continue to be part of the music making process.
